Surprisingly varied terrain
Copperfield Nature Trail [Hiking] - 7/21/2014  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 3stars Solitude: 3stars
Distance: 2.00 Miles Duration: N/A

Much better hike than I expected.  There is a pond, flowing stream (does it always flow?) and lots of different kinds of terrain and plants.  Definitely great for the neighborhood and will be on my repeat list for near by hikes.

Only complaint is the property line for some houses is not clearly marked (i.e. no fence) and I don't want to end up in someone's backyard.  Especially after dark.

Hiking and swimming.
McKinney Falls State Park [Hiking] - 7/3/2009  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 1star Solitude: 2stars
Distance: 2.00 Miles Duration: 1 hour

We hiked between the lower and upper falls (maybe 2 miles round trip?) on the nature trail.  We did it in the morning while it was cooler, although it is still hot.  We saw no one outside of the area around the two falls.

Then we went swimming beneath the upper falls, which was busy, but not crowded and very refreshing after sweating on the hike.  All in all, a good morning and afternoon.

Due to the drought, the falls were a little disappointing.  Plenty of water for swimming at the upper falls, but not much coming over the falls.  The lower falls didn't look very good for swimming and only had a few fisherman there.

Very enjoyable

It was a little cold, but McKinney Roughs is very enjoyable. We hiked down to the Colorado river and up to a great senic outlook. We came across a handful of nice people on horseback, but no one else. I look forward to returning and exploring some more of the trails.
Nice hike inside Austin

Nice hike; interesting trails; lots of variety. You can get a long ways from the developed park if you want to. Lots of people there, especially mountain bikers.
A nice hike.
Commons Ford - Waterfall Trail [Hiking] - 1/14/2006  [View Log Page]
Rating: 4stars Difficulty: 2stars Solitude: 5stars
Distance: 3.00 Miles Duration: N/A
We went hiking on a Saturday afternoon. Once on the trail, we didn't see a soul. The hike was easy, until we decided to go off the trail, but overall it was very fun place to hike. It would probably have been even more enjoyable if it wasn't for this lousy drought. There was only a trickle of water at the first fall and none at the higher waterfall. I'll have to make it back there during a wetter time.
