They say this is the "hike" that anyone worth their mettle should do. I agree; I can''t think of a trek in Texas tougher and more awe inspiring. Let me know if I am missing one. Took a leisurely 3 days on this bad boy. Camped night 1 at Pinnacles and night 2 at Boot Canyon. Side trip to Emory Peak on morning of day 2. Luckily there was plenty of water in Boot Springs; thought we had enough but you really go through it. The loop? My gosh - enough said.
Great trek to the 3rd highest peak in TX

Got an early start by leaving Pinnacles Campground at dawn. Still had the double whammy of climbing the upper Pinnacle trail, then looking forward to the 800 more feet or so to the peak. Dropped packs at the bear boxes and went light. Still so - tough on the old guy; my hiking buddies were 10 and 15 years younger. No wonder I was huffing and puffing. Scramble to the top was great and the views stunning. Too bad a lot of haze and pollution up from Mexico blurs the view to a large extent.
Nice hike for Liz, Sparky and I

Tough little hike! Early enough that it wasn't brutal but that last hill before the Juniper Point trailhead! Gag.
Nice for a close quick trip from Dallas.

Intended to do the Cross Timbers trail (or part of it) but that trail said no pets. And if Sparky doesn't get to go then Liz won't want to go and I am hiking alone!
