A nice outing in the woods in a historical area

Rice Log Home
This is the Rice Family log home. Originally built in 1828 a few miles away, the home served as a stopover on the Old San Antonio Road. It was restored in 1974.

Comments: This is a lightly used park, perhaps due to its location away from population centers. Much of the trail is level, but there are some challenging grades around a couple of creek crossings. I did not hike all the trails, but the route I took circled a small pond, and passed by a restored log cabin, the foundation for an old fire tower, and a bird blind. The entire length of the trail is in the forest. We saw no other hikers and only a couple of sites at the campground were occupied.
