Looking for the most remote hiking experience possible? The National Parks Service released data on park visitation and the top 10 least visited parks is now available.

All of the top 10 in the list are remote and on the edges of the US. Six of the 10 are in Alaska. One is in American Samoa in the middle of the Pacific. None of those are a surprise.

North Cascades National Park is just three hours from Seattle and only saw 30,000 visitors in 2020 (yes, the pandemic cut every park's numbers down last year). There are more glaciers here than in Glacier National Park. Yes, road access is tough in winter but this one is the biggest mystery to me.

A new list of the least visited National Parks in 2021 is available. As many of you may be aware, there has been a great increase in the number of visitors to parks in 2021. Gates of the Arctic in Alaska remains the least visited national park, it is a LONG way from anywhere after all, but its visitation grew by 250% over the previous year.

Another article touting the 10 least crowded US parks to visit in 2022. The rating is based on he number of recorded visits in 2021, so the results look the same as presented elsewhere. Top of their list is Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska with only 7,362 visits.

One can find some solitude almost anywhere, if you just keep hiking and put some distance between you and a road.
