Even more humorous is the fact that this guy is dressed and equipped for golf! Props to the firemen or EMT's who are not just laughing uncontrollably. What statements might have been going through their heads at that time?

  • Where are you headed Briar Rabbit?
  • What was the point of going off trail (course)?
  • Looks like you got yourself into a sticky situation.
  • Please continue your story of how you got here, it's a spine tingling tale.
  • Did you at least find the geocache? No? That's too bad!

I think this guy needs to find a new trail on which to walk his dog. The world, or at least the bear, is trying to send you a message.

Or get one of these.

I'm glad you posted that, Robert. One of my pet peeves is people who let their dogs run off leash on the trail. I've had to halt on the trail a few times wondering where the owner is. I tell them every time it is in their best interests to keep their pets on a leash so they don't get into it with wildlife. An injured pet on the trail is as much of an issue as an injured person.

Two recent news stories about the dangers of rescuing hikers or cleaning up parks in Texas. Ugh!

Beware of man eating spiders, or at least the enormous web of a colony of spiders!

A hiker was badly scalded and his two dogs killed by hot waters in a thermal spring. According to the story, to the man's credit, he instinctually went in to try and save his dogs after they have jumped in.

By all means, if you go on a hike take your phone and/or GPS device with you to record your track and upload it here. But please, don't let your electronic gadgets distract you.

In today's era of electronics, smart phones, and internet apps, BASIC skills such as how to read a map, how to triangulate your location (resection), and terrain navigation have been lost and the lack thereof cost this person their life. I am a bit concerned that these modern conveniences are emboldening people to embark on trips they're not fully prepared for by giving them a false sense of security.

For heaven's sake, tell people where you're going, be prepared and look at the weather forecasts!

The funny thing is that when I came to this website to post a message the first ad to be shown was for New Zealand! BigGrin

Please stay on the trail and try not to fall into an acidic geothermal hot spring and dissolve into nothing. Please.

A compilation of mundane and gruesome ways to die in Texas parks. Be sure to cycle through the picture gallery for individual parks, the number of deaths in the last 5 years and the causes thereof. The most interesting cause of death in Falcon State Park? Eating. Be careful out there.
