Always be on the alert for wildlife, particularly the kind with sharp claws and/or teeth. And for Pete's sake, if you do come across such a beast don't try to take a selfie with one! Note to self. Bears don't like selfies.  |

Not all of these are related to hiking, but some are. Believe it or not, over 250 people have died taking selfies since 2011. What. The. Hell?   Seriously people. Watch where you are going. Look at the world around you not at your phone/camera! Does this mean the iPhone is responsible for more human deaths than any land animal? |

Here's a dose of reality about the dangers of hiking. The risk of death by falling tree is small, but higher than it used to be. It's kind of depressing news about the enormous number of dead trees out there. In the end, you need to be aware of your surroundings. Always good advice. |
