Big and small
In between looking at really huge pink boulders and hills, take some time to look at tiny things--Enchanted Rock hosts a surprisingly diverse range of small, strange organisms, from lichen to spikemosses to minute freshwater shrimp. (Photo by plectrudis)
Massive pink granite dome
Massive pink granite dome - though it's really more puce than pink, but I suppose "puce granite" doesn't sound as nice. This whole region is strewn with huge, improbably round granite boulders--such a strange and beautiful landscape. (Photo by plectrudis)
Fascinating vernal pools are tiny oases

Enchanted Rock and Turkey Peak

Quartz
I came along this large block of quarts while on the trail between Turkey Peak and Freshman Mountain. It glistened in the sunlight. (Photo by heatharcadia)
Exfoliation
Here you can see some of the thin the exfoliation layers along with slick spots where water runs down the rock. (Photo by heatharcadia)
Freshman Mountain
Enchanted Rock proper gets the most attention, but the surrounding hills are also fun hikes. Freshman Mountain had some cool rock formations and I ran into a group of technical rock climbers here. (Photo by heatharcadia)

Panorama from the top
It was cloudy and a bit drizzly when I arrived, but as you can see from this picture a clearing line was making its way over the area. After my first hour here the ky cleared and it was a gorgeous day! (Photo by heatharcadia)
Trail around the base.
The trail around the base is good in its own right. (Photo by Eveline)
