Does anyone know anything about the big live oak? It is past the main trail. The area we were in had well defined trails, but was not on the map. It is one of the most impressive trees I have ever seen. If it is not currently under protection it needs to be. This one tree makes the relative boring hike well worh it.

My husband and I started at the overlook the first time that we did this hike, but we found that if you take Park road C towards Buecher and turn down Hammond road to the right that you can park at the trail there and begin the hike in solitude. This is one of the most peaceful hikes I have been on. At times all you can hear it the wind in the trees. It's wonderful.

This is one of my usual hikes. I get out here at least once a month. I find it's best to go on a weekday to avoid the crowds. A couple of years back when the creek was especially high. My husband and I toobed the creek from the Spicewood springs parking area all the way to the Lakewood parking. It was a great one and we were the only ones on the creek.

This was a very enjoyable hike. We encountered quite a few folks, but everyone was friendly. The creek was scenic and reminded me of places I'd hiked in the Northeast part of the country.

Normally, when I go hiking I'm looking for a place where I can lose the city. There were so many people there that it felt like walking through a natural mall. This wouldn't have been a problem if the folks on bike weren't so rude. We all have to share the trails.
