An unmarked road off of the Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive takes you to the trailhead. This hike totals about 2.5 miles, mostly sunny until you reach Cattail Falls and the oasis the waterfall provides in the desert climate. Bring plenty of water as there's not much shade on this hike.

You won't find the Cattail Falls Trail on the Big Bend National Park Map or most maps. This is by design. It is an extremely fragile ecosystem and an important water source for wildlife in the park. If you visit this destination, please exercise caution and respect.
You can catch the Cattail Falls Trail at Oak Springs. You will have to hike about a mile or so to get to Cattail Falls, but it is very pretty.
