Gene Green Park is a large park that offers a lot of features. It has a dog park, a playground, a motocross bike track, a skate park, basketball and tennis courts, and a long looping trail that goes around the park.
The trail is paved and goes around one small flood reservoir and then around and through another massive flood reservoir. The trail is long enough to stretch your legs and is popular with joggers and walkers. It does have distance markers every 1/4 mile, but the problem is every marker says "1/4 mile" so you have to keep track in your head of how many markers you've passed. To make matters worse, some distance markers are missing. The Harris County Parks and Recreation folks need to do a better job on this one detail.
As the park is located off Beltway 8, it doesn't provide a lot of solitude although the park is huge and some sections are relatively quiet.
